About the JournalA new directionAs the Society approaches its centenary in 2012, the Journal is taking on a new direction. We will establish the Journal as a high-quality venue for the discussion of modes of conceptualising physical and social space, within London's historical and symbolically-rich setting, as both singular and shared. We will address current issues of urban planning and sustainability. By bringing in contributors, both practitioners and theorists, from outside the Society, we aim to establish the Journal, and thus the Society, at the centre of networks of concern for London. The Society, as a membership organisation, continually needs new blood and new ideas, and we shall revisit the Journal's previous proposals for competitions in photography and journalism about London, open to young people and students. The panels of judges for these competitions will include internationally acclaimed, award-winning photographers and journalists. We shall of course continue the Journal's current functions of reporting the Society's work in the planning area, providing accountability information about the running of the Society to members, and reviewing new publications about London. Current plansTopics for our themed issues will cover:
We will interview notable residents of London who came to live and work in London as adults, to offer their personal experience and reflections on life in the Capital. |
